Glue Sticks

Of all the sticky experiences during this session the glue sticks were met with the least interest. The glue sticks were presented with different but familiar materials that could be used in conjunction with the glue sticks. It might have been premature to introduce the glue sticks because the next step should have been using liquid glue with materials that could be stuck down using the glue. Instead of introducing just one new variable (materials to stick down using glue) I introduced two (the glue sticks and the materials to use with them). My intention was to offer the children liquid glue with glitter but as we were fast approaching moving and having guests in town I couldn't bring myself to deal with the clean-up after the exploration so I opted for the glue sticks. In hindsight, my needs and the needs of the playgroup collided and therefore the interest in the experience wasn't as high as usual. So is the life of a teacher. Some ideas you try and they are met with great enthusiasm and other times a passing glance. As long as you take time to think about, reflect upon, and in turn use what you've learned to influence your future interactions even an experience you deem as a "failure" can have redeeming moments.
