The next watercolor painting adventure revolved around bingo bottle painting. These small bottles filled with watercolor have a sponge like top that allows the paint to pass through when pressed into the surface of the paper. As always Sebastien and I tested out the experience together and I realized very quickly that it is not obvious how to use the bottles. After a quick demonstration he caught on. I hoped that his knowledge would help the other children also figure out how to use them. Kaia and Sebastien are the first to explore the bingo bottles and Kaia tries to figure out how to use them.
Kaia quickly gets how to use the bottles but it's still not as easy as you may think. You really have to hit the sponge part head on to get the paint out. How to hold the bottle to do this is a bit of a challenge.
Just as Kaia learns from watching Sebastien, he learns from watching her. He observes Kaia squeezing the bottle and tries it himself.
The sponge part of the bingo bottles is also explored by the children.
Pressing down on the sponge top leads Hannah to an interesting discovery. Right after she presses down on the top and then uses the bottle a lot of watercolor comes out. If you listen you can hear me talking to Kaia (she is watching through the camera as i film Hannah) and explaining to her what I see Hannah doing. Hannah is delighted with her discovery and tries it out again!
During this playgroup session Sebastien's cousin Addy arrives for his birthday weekend festivities. She immeaditly is drawn to the experience and figures out right away that if you place the sponge on the paper and drag it, watercolor moves like it would if you were using a paint brush. Bryce observes her discovery and tries it out himself.
